Does Technology Matter? 

The other day, a broker asked me if technology helps recruit more agents. This includes things like E-signature, production history reports, and getting paid on time. Are you giving your agent a CRM or a website? And does it really matter? 

I truly believe that agents are going to join your brokerage because they like you, the broker, and how you’re going to benefit them. Yes, technology is fantastic. But let’s be honest: people buy people. 

Essential Tech Tools

Don’t get me wrong; I do believe that there are fundamental technologies that every brokerage and agent needs. As mentioned, this includes things like digital signing and getting paid within 24 hours via ACH. 

However, my personal belief is that brokers sometimes have too much technology and too many different platforms that aren’t speaking to one another. Additionally, their agents often don’t even use these tech tools. Running a brokerage myself with over 1,000 agents, I can honestly tell you that only 70 of them actually use the website that we offer. We’ve tried to give them CRMs, but they prefer to use their own or not at all.

When it comes to providing basic technologies to your agents, it’s completely up to you to figure out what will help them grow and thrive in your brokerage and your specific culture. Focus on the technologies that let them transact, while they figure out the specific technologies that are best for them to create more business.
